In case you didn't receive it, here's our most recent update. If you'd like to be added to our list, send us your email.

Hello from Honduras! We hope you and your family enjoyed a wonderful Easter, celebrating our risen Lord! You may notice we are trying out a different format for our newsletter. We were inspired by Ken and Sue’s recent publication, and wanted to be able to share pictures, so we thought we would try it out. We appreciate any feedback!

Campamento Cerro de Luz

Dave continues to be very busy at the camp with all types of building and maintenance projects, as well as assisting with different leadership and children’s camps and weekend groups. In March, we experienced our first interaction with international work teams. First, we enjoyed working with a team from Knoxville, Tennessee, composed of mostly students from the University of Tennessee. They stayed at the camp for 1 week, and it was great. Within hours of the Tennessee team flying out, a team with a wide range of ages from River Valley Community Church in Oregon! The teams volunteered in different organizations throughout the community, as well as working on some key projects at the camp, including: planting trees, digging holes for the High Ropes course poles, building and staining cabins, and lots more! We look forward to more teams in the upcoming year, including one from Parkdale Baptist Church (Esther’s home church) in August!

We also enjoyed having Megan Enns, a friend from Camp Mini-Yo-We and Queen’s, join us for over 3 weeks. She worked very hard preparing and implementing a Science Camp for some of the students from our school. She also worked with us on helping run the school Mini-Olympics, a day of track and field events for all the students from Kindergarten to Gr. 11. Overall, it has been a busy moth, and we were grateful for the Semana Santa (Holy Week) holiday!

The “busy season” at camp has definitely begun, and we look forward to lots of upcoming events. This month, we host the Scripture Union Americas Conference, with directors from all over the world.

We continue to pray and trust God for finances for the camp, specifically to finish the 60-bed dormitory. The roof, windows and doors are now done, but work stops this week because of financial limitations.

Siguatepeque Bilingual Christian School

Teaching continues to be a joy and a challenge! We are now in our 4th and final semester, which is difficult to believe. I have learned many things as a first-year teacher, and look forward to applying some of it next year. At the moment, I plan to teach the same students next year, moving up with them to Gr. 10 and 11.

A large number of recent school events have provided opportunities to get to know students more outside of the classroom. I have had the opportunity to have some encouraging spiritual discussions with my students. One student in particular, has grown up in a Christian family and has come to a place where he has decided he does not believe what he has been taught. He has experienced quite negative reactions from other believers to his doubts, which has led to further disenchantment. I have been encouraging him to continue on his search for truth. Please join us as we pray that God will reveal Himself to this young man.

Recruitment

Thank you for your prayers for our Recruitment Trip to Canada in February. As a direct result of connections made during that trip, we have received 3 applications for teaching positions for the 2007-2008 school year! There have been a number of other individuals interested in short-term or future opportunities, which is an encouragement to us. We have also received a number of other applications through our website – www.ceehonduras.com

We continue to have a real need for teachers in both the elementary and secondary schools, in a number of different subjects and grades. Please pray with us as we continue to trust that God will lead the right people here. If you know of anyone who might be interested in either short or long-term opportunities, please have them contact us at recruitment@ceehonduras.com

Esther and Dave,

I'd LOVE to be added to your email list! What a treat it will be to be able to keep up with you. This is the gal from KINGSTON, Tennessee, who was with the work team from U.T. back in March! My husband and I would love to be able to receive your news, so add this address: russandroberta@juno.com.

I still hope that my daughter and son-in-law will be able to meet you both some day. He is finishing up his masters degree this summer in Adventure Education. And, after hearing all about my Honduras trip, and after meeting you two and realizing how much you all have in common, they might try to find a time to come to Siguatepeque sometime to meet you and the Vissers and see the camp. We'll see!

Blessings to you both.

In Christ's love,
Roberta Simmons
