Moving In!

It's official - we now live in our very own house. Not ours in the sense of owning it, but ours in the sense that we can unpack and not live out of a suitcase! Now to some that might not seem that exciting, but after spending the first year of our marriage without a fixed address, it is has been wonderful to have a sense of "home" again.

Since we don't actually have many domestic things, we've been spending a lot of the past week shopping - everything from beds to cutting boards. The camp has been wonderful at purchasing lots of the big things. Dave doesn't find this stuff quite as exciting as I do, but he has been wonderful at working on his little "To Do" list - yes, Mom, I am turning into you :) Tonight he's working on putting up some curtains in the living room - we have 3 massive windows in there - 2 of them are 10 feet wide - so we're hoping to find some fabric for a little bit of privacy. We have one window covered with a hospital bed sheet at the moment - it's like "student living" all over again!

We even have our first guests staying at our place this weekend. There is a big retreat for all of the Union Biblica (Scripture Union) workers at the camp, and 5 people will be staying with us. Eventually, our guest room will also become my office, but for now, we have 2 bunk beds and a double bed in there. So, if anyone wants to come and visit, there are lots of places to stay! And, we're discovering great places to explore all the time - Ken found an amazing canyon nearby, there are caves and waterfalls 20 minutes away, coffee plantations, beautiful nurseries (that's for you Pauline and Ron!), fun restaurants, and breathtaking views - ok, I sound like a travel magazine, but seriously, we would love to have visitors!

Check out our Photo Album if you want to see some more pictures. And yes, we do have a table saw in our living room and a laundry washer and dryer in our kitchen. Supposedly they are only temporary, but I have been using the dryer as a counter, since we are waiting for our kitchen cupboards to arrive. All part of the adventure, and we're loving it! We don't have email access at our house yet, but we live a 5 minute walk away from Ken and Sue's, so we will do our best to keep our blog up-to-date.

Outside of house stuff, we've both been busy with working. Dave's worked on a ton of projects this week - from finishing up a cabin to building stairs to creating some temporary showers for this weekend. I've had meetings all week with the other teachers at the school. Yesterday, I put up some posters in my class. The cement walls weren't overly inspiring, so it looks a bit more lively now. Tomorrow night is Parent's Night, when they introduce all of the teachers, and we give a little talk about our plans for the year. It will be in Spanish, so I'll definitely make a fool of myself, but such is life. We heard once that learning a second language is a wonderful way to be humbled and admit your weakness, and we're definitely realizing that! Everyone here is very helpful and understanding about it though, and appreciates that we're trying.

We'll post again next week, and let you know how our weekend at the camp goes. There is apparently some type of welcoming party for us on Saturday night as well, which should be fun. And, I'm supposed to be teaching rock painting as a craft - not exactly up my alley! And then, school starts on Monday at 7:30 am! Exciting! Hope everyone has a great weekend!

Congratulations on the fixed address!

God bless you, Dave. A man after my own heart: a table saw in the living room. Well, if your wife doesn't build you a shop, you are allowed to keep the table saw in the living room. It is rule #1 in the marriage handbook. (See, you should have let me do the marriage counselling. Carolyn and I work from two different marriage books.)

Sure would love to come to visit. We're on a budget.
